The best known of all pears, ‘Conference’ is excellent eaten as a dessert pear but also exceptional when cooked. It is also one of the few pear varieties to be reliably self-fertile in most situations, so you don’t usually need another pollinator nearby. Furthermore it is a good pollinator for many other pears. The ‘Conference’ pear tree is a hardy variety that is resistant to frost and most common pear diseases, such as pear scab. Between April and May, ‘Conference’ pear trees produce bright white flowers that will survive the frost. Harvest time is September to October
