Dryopteris affinis is the British native male fern, Dryopteris affinis, found in woodlands in wetter parts of Britain, and ‘Cristata The King’ is just one of its cultivars. Dryopteris affinis ‘Cristata The King’ is described as the King of British ferns and has been in gardens since the Victorian times. It’s a striking fern with golden green young fronds becoming fresh, bright green and arching with interesting crests at the tips. Ideal for a moist, shady location (including a pot), it is a semi-evergreen fern that keeps its leaves almost all year round.
