Portuguese Laurel – Prunus lusitanica ‘Angustifolia’

A lovely large, evergreen shrub that has dark green leaves with red stalks. This Portuguese laurel has small white, slightly fragrant elongated clusters of flowers in early summer that are often followed by small, red fruit which eventually turn dark purple. Portuguese laurel is an excellent hedging plant and it can even tolerate chalky soils.  It is a good alternative to Prunus laurocerasus  (Cherry Laurel) which has larger glossy lighter leaves.Rootballed hedge plants are larger, bushier field grown plants grown at extra wide spacings for several years and are then lifted by a specialist rootballing machine with the soil and immediate root system, these large bushy plants are great value.
