The bottle brush plant, Callistemon citrinus, bears dramatic crimson-red flower spikes, in contrast with dark green, aromatic foliage, in spring and summer. New foliage has a pink-red flush but darkens with age. Callistemon can be grown in their natural bush form or successfully trimmed to loose topiary shapes, like this one. Callistemons are evergreen, half-hardy and prefer a sheltered place in the garden or need to be brought indoors/undercover in winter. Trim to keep to desired shape/height.
