Clusters of tiny, green flowers in May and June and glossy, dark green leaves with a prominent, central yellow blotch. This handsome, evergreen shrub is ideal for brightening partly shady areas of the border. A comparatively new variegated variety with yellow stems, it requires well-drained soil and protection from cold, drying winds. Tip prune young plants in mid to late spring to encourage bushy growth and apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant.
