Pussy Willow – Salix caprea ‘Kilmarnock’

‘Kilmarnock’ is a stiffly pendulous small tree with yellowish branches, ovate leaves, and large grey catkins with yellow anthers opening before the leaves. The leaves are dark green with silvery-grey-green undersides. Before the male catkins come into full flower they are covered in fine, greyish fur, leading to a fancied likeness to tiny cats, also known as pussies, hence the common name Pussy Willow. The catkins appear long before the leaves, and are one of the earliest signs of spring
